Social Work Housing Resources

CalAIM is a program paid for through your Medi-Cal provider. If you have Medi-Cal insurance, you may be eligible to receive help from CalAIM Community Supports.

CalAIM Community Supports

CalAIM is a program paid for through your Medi-Cal provider. If you have Medi-Cal insurance, you may be eligible to receive help from CalAIM Community Supports. Some of the services they offer include:

  • Housing Transition Navigation Services - Helps you find services for your housing needs. This could include finding housing if you’re homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Housing Tenancy and Sustaining Services - Helps you keep safe and stable housing once you have a place to live. Services may include training, education, and coaching. You may also get support with your duties, rights, and benefits as a tenant.
  • Environmental Accessibility Adaptations (Home Modifications) - Helps you modify your home to ensure your health, well-being, and safety. These changes may help you live better at home independently.
  • Housing Deposits - Provides a housing deposit and other services to help you set up a home.

To get started, please call your Medi-Cal insurance provider and tell them you would like to enroll.

CalWORKS

CalWORKs helps with cash to pay for rent, housing, food, clothing, medical payments, and utilities for families with at least one child in the home. Families that apply and qualify for ongoing assistance receive money each month to help pay for housing, food and other necessary expenses. Services that may be available to you include:

  • Cash aid
  • Housing support
  • Employment services
  • Child care
  • Education assistance
  • Mental health services
  • Substance abuse support
  • Domestic abuse support

Coordinated Entry System (CES)

The coordinated entry system helps individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to find housing options such as permanent supportive housing, transitional housing, and shelters. They are also able to connect to services such as employment assistance, life skills development, and basic needs.

You must call 2-1-1 to get a referral for the Coordinated Entry System. Their hotline is available 24/7, 7 days a week.

Home Safe Program

Home Safe supports individuals aged 60 and above, as well as dependent adults, who are experiencing homelessness or facing the risk of homelessness. Home Safe offers a range of strategies to address and prevent homelessness and support ongoing housing stability for Adult Protective Services (APS) clients, including housing-related intensive case management, housing-related financial assistance, deep cleaning to maintain safe housing, eviction prevention, landlord mediation, and more.

You can call the APS intake number for your local county to see if you qualify for the Home Safe program. When calling, ask about the “Home Safe Program.”.

Housing and Disability Advocacy Program (HDAP)

This program helps people who are either experiencing or at-risk of experiencing homelessness and who are likely eligible for disability benefits. They provide advocacy for disability benefits as well as housing supports. Some of the services they provide include:

  • Case Management
  • Disability benefits advocacy
  • Housing assistance

Independent Living Center (ILC)

Every county has an ILC that services individuals with disabilities. They differ in services they can provide, but examples are Housing Navigation, Peer Support, Benefits Counseling, Advocacy, Independent Living Skills, Employment, and Assistive Technology.

Public Housing Assistance (Housing Choice Vouchers & Section 8 Housing Assistance)

If you need public housing assistance or would like specific information about public housing programs such as housing choice vouchers or Section 8 Housing, please contact your local Public Housing Agency.

Homeless Prevention Programs

Some counties have a Homeless Prevention Program, such as Los Angeles County and Santa Clara County. Homeless prevention programs can assist with services such as:

  • Financial assistance
  • Legal support
  • Case management
  • Advocacy counseling
