Virginia Knowlton Marcus Joins Disability Rights California

(Sacramento, CA – May 15, 2017) Virginia Knowlton Marcus has joined Disability Rights California (DRC) as Director of the Legal Advocacy Unit. Knowlton returns to DRC after 11 years as the Executive Director of our sister organization, Disability Rights Maryland. Virginia has been advocating for people with disabilities on a broad array of issues at the state, federal and international levels for 25 years. 

Knowlton is the former Executive Director of the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation in Washington, D.C. She worked on disability policy, grant making and development projects in Africa and Central America. She currently serves as Board Secretary and Legislative Committee Co-chair of the National Disability Rights Network.

Knowlton began working at DRC as a law student. She remained for a decade, working in several capacities, including Director of Public Policy. Her prior experience includes a California Assembly Fellowship, staffing the Ways & Means Committee under Chairman John Vasconcellos. She earned her J.D. and B.A. in International Relations/World Politics at the University of California, Davis.
