About the webinar:

We will explore the following:

  • A summary of the status of patients’ rights before the Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act
  • Explain what motivated lawmakers to pass the LPS Act
  • Review modifications made to the LPS Act over the last 55 years
  • Discuss any developments regarding the future of the LPS Act

Speakers:

Jode Keasler (she/her) is a Coordinator with the (PSA) Unit at Disability Rights California (DRC). She has lived experience with co-occurring disorders. Jode is aware of the challenges and stigma one can face navigating the world having disabilities.

For 8 years, Jode was a Patients’ Rights Advocate working for the California Office of Patients’ Rights (COPR) Specializing in advocating for the rights of patients with mental health disabilities at state hospitals. 

Jode is pleased she brought what she has learned to PSA, where she teaches peers and peer service providers about the applicable rights and self-advocacy tools/ techniques to get their needs met.
