2018 Position Letters - Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities

AB 2171 (Frazier) - Support - Interagency Agreements

 The bill increases opportunities so people with intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities can prepare for and engage in competitive integrated employment. It requires the State Department of Education, the State Department of Developmental Services, or the Department of Rehabilitation to develop an interagency agreement that ensures the seamless and coordinated delivery of services and supports to children and youth eligible for special education services or eligible for services provided by the departments.

AB 2244 (Acosta) - Support - Regional Center Provider Rates

This bill creates an expedited review process of a health and safety waiver request in the Department of Developmental Services system. The expedited health and safety waiver review applies in circumstances where there is an imminent and serious threat to the health and safety of a client, such as when a person is in crisis and at risk of more restrictive placement or placement in a less integrated setting.

AB 2331 (Weber) - Support - Medi-Cal Redetermination: Developmental Disability

This bill changes current law to require a county to perform a redetermination every 36 months instead of every 12 months for a Medi-Cal beneficiary who has a developmental disability and is eligible for regional center services.

This bill extends authority to the Department of Developmental Services and regional centers to adjust the rates of providers to comply with minimum wage levels enacted in the local jurisdictions where they employ workers to meet consumer service needs under the Lanterman Act.

AB 3074 (Frazier) – Support - Supported Employment

This bill increases opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to engage in job discovery and job readiness training to assist their transition to competitive, integrated employment where they are able to work at minimum wage or above in the community and rely less on public benefits.

SB 175 (McGuire) - Support - Developmental services: Canyon Springs Community Facility

This bill would authorize a court to order, until June 30, 2021, the commitment of an individual who meets specified criteria for admission due to an acute crisis, to a separate and distinct unit of Canyon Springs Community Facility.

SB 1274 (McGuire) – Support - Data Exchange

SB 1247 requires the State Department of Social Services to disclose eligibility and enrollment data for the CalWORKs and CalFresh programs to the State Department of Developmental Services(DDS).
