To kick off National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we had an exciting panel of disability leaders discussing employment for people with disabilities. They talked about their own personal experiences with employment, reasonable accommodations, supports to find a job and more.

Experts from Disability Rights California are going to break down who will be affected by these changes, when they are going to take place, and which law is causing each change.

This town hall discussion shared information ahead of the special election on November 4th, 2025. You will learn about accessible voting options and what will be on the ballot. 

Sharing employment experiences

During National Disability Employment Month, join Disability Rights California’s Disability Alliance Employee Resource Group for a conversation about employment and people with disabilities! Together we’ll learn and share about our experiences in the workplace.

People with disabilities often face serious challenges that impact their daily lives, which are compounded for immigrants with disabilities, particularly for those of us who have limited English proficiency. On March 26, 2024, DRC’s UMOJA employee resource group and the Public Policy Unit held a fireside discussion around the experience of Black Immigrants with disabilities at the intersection of family, community, and culture.

This webinar will provide an overview of two new mental health laws in California: SB 43 (Grave Disability) and CARE Court. We will share plain-language explanations of how each of these new laws can lead to involuntary commitment for Californians with mental health disabilities and what an individual’s rights are when interacting with these new laws.

Disability Rights California has long argued that the voices of people with lived experience with mental health disabilities are missing from the creation of policies about mental illness. In the last few years, California has enacted sweeping legislation to rewrite mental health law, in ways likely to increase the amount of involuntary treatment.

At the beginning of the year, DRC hosted the Education Equity Summit which brought together several federal and state officers and public policy thought leaders to discuss education equity for the most marginalized students: African American, Indigenous, Latinx students with disabilities.
