What is a Representative Payee?
A representative payee is someone the Social Security Administration (SSA) chooses to help you budget and spend your Social Security money.
This can be a friend, relative or agency that helps you manage your money. Your payee receives your monthly benefits and MUST use the money to pay your current needs, including housing and utility bills, food, medical expenses, and personal care items.
What Should I Be Aware of?
Unfortunately, sometimes representative payees don't manage your money the way you want them to or you want to change who is your designated representative payee.
