DRC Program

Consumer Assistance, Payee Review, and Investigations (CAPRI)

The Consumer Assistance, Payee Review, and Investigations (CAPRI) program is comprised of two independent DRC units, the Investigations Unit (IU) and the Office of Payee Review and Beneficiary Assistance (OPRABA).

The IU focuses on the abuse and neglect of people with disabilities in community and institutional settings. The IU engages in public policy, legislative, investigative, and grassroots community advocacy to achieve systemic reform.

OPRABA audits and investigates representative payees who money-manage social security benefits on behalf of beneficiaries to uncover and remedy exploitation, abuse, and fraud perpetrated against beneficiaries. OPRABA works with a variety of criminal justice and licensure oversight entities to ensure additional protections for beneficiaries.
