Trump Administration’s Proposed “Mixed Status Families” Rule

About the webinar:

The National Housing Law Project, Disability Rights California, and People Organized for Westside Renewal (POWER) invite you to listen to this webinar on the Trump Administration’s Proposed “Mixed Status Families” Rule. Mixed status families are households that contain some members who are U.S. citizens or non-citizens eligible for HUD financial assistance and some non-citizens who are not eligible for HUD financial assistance. Currently, mixed status families are eligible to receive prorated assistance in Section 8, public housing, and other federal housing programs. But the Trump Administration plans to rescind that rule, leaving mixed status families to choose between breaking up their household or giving up their housing assistance entirely. This webinar will provide an overview of the current rule on mixed status families, HUD’s proposed change to the rule, and the negative impacts the new rule will have on mixed status families and their eligibility for HUD housing.

Speakers:

Arianna Cook-Thajudeen is a legal fellow focusing on the housing rights of immigrants. Her fellowship project centers on the intersection between immigrant rights, the housing protections under the Violence Against Women Act, and the impact of nuisance and crime-free ordinances on marginalized groups of people. She first worked with NHLP as a law clerk in the summer of 2017 during her fellowship from the Center for Civil and Human Rights.
