About the webinar:
"Employment Rights and Accommodations" is designed to help people with disabilities understand their legal rights in the workplace. This session covers what accommodations in the workplace may look like, how to request reasonable accommodations from an employer, and how to enforce your rights as a person with a disability.
What you will learn:
- An overview of federal and state laws that protect your right to reasonable accommodations in the workplace.
- What is a Reasonable Accommodation in employment.
- Examples of job or workplace modifications that support equal access and performance.
- How to request accommodations during the job application process and during employment.
- The interactive process and undue hardship.
- Practical guidance and tips for communicating your needs to an employer; and
- How to enforce your rights if you are unjustifiably denied an accommodation or experience disability discrimination by your employer.
Presenters:
Daniel Hernandez (he/him/his) is an attorney with the non-profit organization Disability Rights California (DRC), which provides legal assistance to people with disabilities in California. He has been part of the organization since 2022 and is based in San Diego, California. In his role serving people with disabilities across the state, Daniel conducts outreach, develops legal clinics, and engages in direct client services. He is a generalist with legal experience in the following areas: healthcare and related programs; social security; special education; housing; and civil rights.
