Part 1: Laws and Strategies to Avoid Admission to College Hospital

Join us for a webinar presentation on how individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can avoid being placed in College Hospital.

You will learn about:

• Federal and state laws that guarantee people with disabilities the right to live in the community with appropriate services and supports.
• The different legal reasons someone can end up at College Hospital.
• What services regional centers and the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) can provide for someone at risk of entering College Hospital.

Part 2: Strategies for Leaving College Hospital and Transition Planning

A presentation on the laws surrounding College Hospital placements, regional center responsibilities throughout the process, and effective strategies to advocate for transition back to the community.

Panelists

Jens Sorensen, Clients’ Rights Advocate/Attorney (he/him)

Jens has been a Clients’ Rights Advocate for over 7 years and has developed a broad expertise in community integration for people with developmental disabilities. He has advocated for dozens of individuals at College Hospital and other institutions throughout Southern California.

Ibrahim Saab, Senior Attorney, goes by his nickname, “Bebo.” (he/him)

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with high honors, from the University of California, Berkeley in 1999. He also earned his Juris Doctorate from UC Berkeley's School of Law. Prior to his current position, Bebo led the Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy’s outreach team. He also proudly served clients of the North Los Angeles County Regional Center as a Clients’ Rights Advocate for 14 years.
