Self-Advocating for FEMA Disaster Recovery Assistance

This will give potential attendees a brief overview about the virtual event topic. The Disaster Resilience Program is providing a training for survivors of the Southern California wildfires who want to learn more about FEMA disaster recovery assistance and are seeking information on how to appeal FEMA decisions.

About the webinar:

Staff Attorney Jordan Davis will lead a webinar on common issues with FEMA applications/appeals and discuss the new disaster assistance that FEMA now provides for people with disabilities. This training is designed to help you understand why you were denied disaster assistance and learn how to draft an appeal letter; as well as help you identify all of the disaster assistance you may qualify for and request.

Topics will include:

  • Drafting FEMA appeal letters
  • The types of supporting documents you may need
  • Information about the disaster assistance FEMA offers specifically for people with disabilities

Speakers:

Jordan Davis, Disability Rights California, Staff Attorney, As an Equal Justice Works Fellow, Jordan established and currently runs the Disaster Resilience Program at Disability Rights California. The Disaster Resilience Program advocates for people with disabilities impacted by disasters and climate change through direct legal services, outreach, trainings on emergency preparedness, public policy advocacy, and collaborating with organizations across the country.
