2018 Position Letters - Resolutions
ACR 165 (Grayson) – Support - Down Syndrome Awareness
This resolution would proclaim March 18 to March 24, 2018, as California Down Syndrome Awareness Week and March 21, 2018, as California Down Syndrome Day, and would encourage all Californians to support and participate in related activities.
ACR 171 (Eggman) – Support - National Caregivers Day
This resolution recognizes February 16, 2018, as National Caregivers Day.
ACR 172 (Low) – Support - LGBT Apology
This resolution apologizes for the enactment of past discriminatory laws and constitutional provisions that resulted in the persecution and oppression of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and their communities.
ACR 191 (Limon) – Support - California Nonprofits Day
This resolution declares June 6, 2018 as California Nonprofits Day, in recognition of the importance of nonprofit organizations to the economy and well-being of this state.
ACR 198 (Jones-Sawyer, Sr.) – Support - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 50th Anniversary of Death Recognition
As a leader of the civil rights movement, Dr. King’s work and legacy not only advanced the rights of African-Americans, but also assisted in setting the stage for other civil rights activities and movements, including those that advanced the civil rights of people with disabilities and other minority communities.
ACR 237 (Cooley) – Support - Foster Care Month
This bill would declare the month of May 2018 as Foster Care Month. There are currently 62,644 California children and youth in foster care. Nearly half require special education and physical and behavioral health related services to succeed in school.
ACR 238 (Kalra) - Support - Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month
This bill would proclaim the month of June 2018 as Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month in California, and state the importance of annually recognizing Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month.
HR 77 (Quirk-Silva) – Support - California’s Earned Income Tax Credit Week
This resolution recognizes the importance of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) by declaring the week of February 11-17 “California’s Earned Income Tax Credit Week.”
HR 79 (Eggman) – Support - California Social Work Month
This resolution proclaims March 2018 as Social Work Month in the State of California.
HR 89 (Frazier) – Support - Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
This resolution recognizes March 2018 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. The measure also commends the efforts of the individuals and organizations that have worked diligently to increase the awareness of developmental disabilities, and celebrates and supports the diversity and capabilities of all our citizens, and particularly those who experience developmental disabilities.
SJR 19 (Wilk) – Support - Special Education Funding
This resolution would respectfully memorialize the Congress and the President of the United States to enact H.R. 2902 pending before Congress. H.R. 2902 calls for fully funding the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
