Governor signs legislation to fix the “yo-yoing” of seniors and disabled Medi-Cal and Medicare recipients ensuring they do not go on and off no share of cost Medi-Cal (AB 1088 (Wood))

On October 2nd the Governor signed a bill that will ensure that seniors and Medi-Cal recipients with disabilities do not flip on and off free Medi-Cal when they have some income and their Medicare premium is being paid by the state. Without this fix beneficiaries have been experiencing the problem of “yo-yoing”, between free Medi-Cal and a potential several hundred dollar monthly share of cost every few months. The bill is effective January 1, 2020 and requires federal approval.

The bill was part of a senior package of bills that were sponsored by Disability Rights California, Justice in Aging, and Western Center on Law & Poverty.
