Disability Rights California (DRC) Statement on Biden’s Plan to Provide Relief for Some Undocumented Spouses and Children of US Citizens

DRC applauds President Biden’s plan to keep families together by allowing certain undocumented spouses and children an expedited pathway to citizenship and integration in the community. This is a great first step in the desperately needed permanent legislative solution to a pathway to citizenship for our diverse communities.

People with disabilities thrive in communities where they are accepted and can live without the fear of being torn from their support system. Immigrant families are the foundation and lifeblood of this nation; it’s time that Congress recognize that and provide a permanent solution to a pathway to citizenship.

We need to show the world, and remind ourselves, that we are a nation that values diversity and, from our inception, a haven for people who seek to live independent and healthy lives.

“After seeing firsthand the devastating effects family separation has on children, especially those with disabilities, we are pleased to see the administration provide an expedited pathway to citizenship that keeps families together and healthy. Congress now must act to provide a permanent solution and protect our families," says Andy Imparato, Executive Director, Disability Rights California.
