Disability Rights California is excited to host our third-annual gala celebrating the Art of Disability Justice! Join one of the nation’s largest disability rights organizations for an evening of engaging live performances from members of the disability community at the beautiful Tsakopoulos Library Galleria in downtown Sacramento!

Last year, our gala was a tremendous success, with over 300 attendees and a generous outpouring of support from our community. We’re thrilled to continue the momentum with our upcoming gala, which will feature surprise guests, live entertainment, and more.

Dolores Huerta, Founder & President of the Dolores Huerta Foundation.
Dolores Huerta is a civil rights activist and community organizer. She has worked for labor rights and social justice for over 50 years. In 1962, she and Cesar Chavez founded the United Farm Workers Union. She served as Vice President and was critical in many of the union’s accomplishments for four decades. In 2002, she received the Puffin/Nation $100,000 prize for Creative Citizenship, which she used to establish the Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF). DHF is engaging in groundbreaking community-based organizing to state and national movements to register and educate voters; advocate for education reform; improve infrastructure in low-income communities; advocate for greater equality for the LGBT community; and create strong leadership development. She has received numerous awards, including the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award from President Clinton in 1998. In 2012 President Obama bestowed Dolores with The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.

Taryn M. Williams
Taryn Mackenzie Williams is a national expert on disability employment policy. She most recently served as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy, leading the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP). She holds a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Brown University and a master’s degree in education, specializing in administration, planning, and social policy, from Harvard University. Williams resides in Washington, DC.

Max brings his performances to life with passion, movement, and expressions to evoke the meaning behind the music. He’s performed with Chance the Rapper, on the MTV VMA Awards, GQ magazine, and more!

Nina G., Comedian and MC
Nina G. is a stand-up comedian, keynote speaker, and author who infuses her perspective as a person who lives with a stutter into her comedy. She has written three books and released a solo album, Stutterer Interrupted. Through her work, Nina G. challenges people to think about disabilities differently.

DJ Elements has over 20 years of experience DJing for a variety of events and has been a DJ with the Sacramento Kings since 2016.

Raven Sutton
Raven Sutton is a D/deaf Community Advocate at Disability Rights California, content creator, and American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter. She uses her social media platforms to create compelling, viral content that uplifts the D/deaf community and inspire change. Raven has brought her love for music to ASL performances at concerts for Megan Thee Stallion, Kendrick Lamar, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and more. She also made history as the first Deaf contestant on the Netflix game show “The Circle."

  • Health: We will be complying with Sacramento County guidelines for COVID safety. We will have an outdoor option and will take every precaution to have a COVID-safe event.
  • Dress Code: Business Attire. We encourage guests to dress up if they feel inspired.
  • Dining/Drinks: Hearty hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be provided.
  • Parking: Hosted valet parking will be provided. Valet will be available outside of the I street entrance to the Galleria.
  • Accommodations: We encourage participation from members of the disability community. This event is scent free in order to accommodate individuals who have environmental disabilities and are adversely affected by scent and odors. We will have real time captioning and ASL interpreters for our program. Please note on the ticket page any reasonable accommodations you may need by February 14, 2024.
