Protection and Advocacy (P&A)

Protection and Advocacy (P&A)
Disability Rights California (DRC) provides services to all Californians with disabilities because we are the designated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) agency for the state.
DRC is part of a national network of federally funded P&A agencies that form the P&A system. The P&A system was created in 1975 when Congress mandated that every state and territory have an official protection and advocacy agency, to ensure that the rights of people with disabilities were protected.
For more than 40 years, DRC has worked to advance the rights of Californians with disabilities in education, employment, housing, independence, health, and safety. We have grown into the largest disability rights organization in the nation.
We work in litigation, legal representation, advocacy services, investigations, public policy, and provide information, advice, referrals, and community outreach.
