Impact

At Disability Rights California we’re working to build a world where all people with disabilities have power and are treated with dignity and respect.

In Fiscal Year 2025, DRC staff obtained over $2.62 million in lump sum awards and over $958 thousand per month in ongoing economic benefits through individual advocacy.
In addition, through systemic advocacy, DRC staff obtained over $306 thousand in lump sum awards.
DRC staff conducted 1,500 Outreaches and Trainings.
54,461 attendees received information and training through outreaches and trainings.
DRC staff developed or revised 24 resources.
DRC’s Office of Payee Review and Beneficiary Assistance (OPRABA) program conducted 393 representative payee reviews serving more than 1,256 beneficiaries. 1,463 deficiencies were assessed against 330 representative payees, meaning that 91% of the representative payees will be receiving a corrective action plan from DRC or the Social Security Administration (SSA) for poor money management practices. DRC also provided 125 referrals for additional community and legal services and recommended 11 representative payees to be reviewed for poor management practices.
DRC’s Work Incentive Planning and Assistance (WIPA) program, serving San Diego, Imperial, and Riverside counties, received 197 new referrals in 2025. We developed 99 Benefits Summary Analysis reports to help beneficiaries understand how earnings from work will impact their benefits. The WIPA program maintained an active caseload of 341 cases providing ongoing support to beneficiaries with overpayments, applying work incentives, resolving a variety of benefits related issues, and reporting their earnings to Social Security.
DRC policy staff closely analyzed 460 pieces of legislation (bills) directly impacting person with disabilities.
We took positions on 150 bills and Sponsored 6 bills.
DRC staff responded to 22,297 requests for assistance.
