The Importance of Grant Funding
Why is it significant to have private grants for DRC?
Private grants allow DRC to diversify funding streams. As we have experienced recently, government funding, budgets, and priorities shift with political changes. Private support helps our financial stability and reduces our vulnerability to cuts or delays in public funding. Private grants also offer more flexibility than federal or state grants and contracts, which require strict regulations and reporting requirements. And while private grants can fund a specific project, some funders offer general operating support, meaning DRC can utilize funds in the best way that serves the whole organization.
Why is it important for DRC to have several funding streams?
A diversified funding stream shows support from the community in a different way than mandated grants and contracts. Fundraising events, sponsorships, private grants, in-kind donations all showcase a nonprofit organization’s proven and positive partnerships in the community. This support from many directions strengthens DRC’s credibility and makes us more competitive for future grants and donors. This is an unprecedented time of uncertainly for our federal disability grants and contracts. Several funding streams ensure that we continue vital programming for our clients with disabilities, and look ahead to new projects that help us adapt to the changing needs of DRC and the disability community.
