Rodrigo’s Story & Medicare Benefits

Rodrigo sought out support and guidance from Disability Rights California (DRC) Work Incentives Planning Assistance (WIPA) program. His report from Social Security showed that the Medicare premium was being deducted from his Title 2 benefits despite having a Medi-Cal buy-in program that was supposed to pay the monthly premium. The client was unaware of the deduction.

When speaking with us, we referred the client, with his permission, to the local Legal Aid for assistance to get the issued fixed and to receive retroactive reimbursement for all months that his premium was deducted from his Title 2.

Rodrigo was then reimbursed $12,000, which represented all months his Part B premium was deducted from his benefits.

 

Looking Forward

Disability Rights California Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) Program will continue to advocate and offer free individualized work incentives counseling to eligible individuals.

Our goal is to advocate for and help Social Security beneficiaries who receive benefits based on a disability make informed choices about their employment goals.
