WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference Education Fund, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Communities Against Hate, and 83 other civil rights organizations today launched full-page advertisements in The New York Times and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in solidarity with victims of recent acts of hate and bigotry in our country.

The ad, designed by artist Celeste Jacobs, depicts elements of Pittsburgh, Pa., the location of the recent anti-Semitic mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue, and Louisville, Ky., where a white supremacist murdered two African Americans at a Kroger supermarket when the gunman was unable to enter a predominantly Black church.

Celeste Jacobs is a Jewish-American graphic designer and illustrator whose work makes complicated elements accessible and inspiring. Celeste explores narratives, folklore and relationships with one another in her work.

The groups condemn all acts of hate and urge all victims and witnesses of hate to document their incidents at communitiesagainsthate.org or by calling 1-844-9-NO-HATE.

The ad can be viewed here. For more information, visit loveilluminates.org

The Leadership Conference Education Fund builds public will for federal policies that promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. The Education Fund’s campaigns empower and mobilize advocates around the country to push for progressive change in the United States. It was founded in 1969 as the education and research arm of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. For more information on The Education Fund, visit http://leadershipconferenceedfund.org/.

Founded in 1940, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.. (LDF) is the nation’s first civil and human rights law organization and has been completely separate from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) since 1957—although LDF was originally founded by the NAACP and shares its commitment to equal rights. LDF’s Thurgood Marshall Institute is a multi-disciplinary and collaborative hub within LDF that launches targeted campaigns and undertakes innovative research to shape the civil rights narrative.
