AB 216 (Weber)

Restraint and Seclusion in Public and Private Schools
Legislation

Currently a “spot bill,” AB 216 is intended to improve on DRC-sponsored legislation from last year (AB 2657 (Weber)), which enacted strong prohibitions on many unsafe student interventions. Prompted by the death of a student at a Northern California non-public school, DRC is conducting an investigation of the school and it is expected that the recommendations from that investigation and other state and local investigations will provide, in part, a basis to revise the new law to increase the protection of schoolchildren.
