1st Term 9/15/18-9/14/21
Disability Rights California
1831 K Street
Sacramento, CA 95811
Jim Janz became involved in the disability community when his son, now an adult, was only a few years old, and Jim and his wife, Kathy, who has operated a home care agency serving the elderly and the disabled for many years, were told that their son was “developmentally delayed.”
“It’s an interesting term, and not necessarily inaccurate. We found our son can learn and do many things. However, some take him a while longer.” Jim said that he and Kathy have had to deal with the usual issues facing people with disabilities, including fighting with school districts to protect their son’s rights.
Jim is a land use and real estate attorney in private practice in the Bay Area. He holds degrees in Civil Engineering and Urban Planning, and has a J.D. and MBA from the University of Chicago.
In the past, Jim has served on other non-profit boards, including the San Francisco Hearing and Speech Center and the Squaw Valley Community of Writers.
He also has an extensive background in public service, having served on the Planning Commission and the City Council for the Town of Atherton, California, including twice serving as mayor.
