Re: AB/SB Bill # (Author's last name) - Support/Oppose

Dear Assembly Member/Senator ______________:

Tell your representative why you are writing (i.e. support or oppose a bill, or if there is no bill number, the issue you are concerned with). Example: I am writing to support AB 1113. The bill is scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Health and Human Services Committee on May 31, 2007

Tell them why you support/oppose and why the issue is important to you. If you have a personal story or other facts, describe them.

Be sure to thank them for their time and politely request a response. Example: Thank you for your time and consideration of my position on this bill. I am looking forward to a response with your thoughts on this matter.

Sincerely,

Your Name

It is not necessary, but it is a good idea to send this letter to the author’s staff member who is handling the bill, as well as the staff member who is handling it for the committee in which it is going to be heard.*

CC: John Brown, Consultant, Assembly Member Smith’s Office
CC: Dana Jones, Principal Consultant, Assembly Health and Human Services Committee
