Artful Steps' mission is to enhance both the artistic abilities and the self-esteem of individuals with developmental disabilities

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Artful Steps program, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, proudly announces a group art exhibit featuring the work of artists with developmental disabilities. The "Flora and Fauna" show includes more than 60 pieces of art inspired by the natural world. Over 30 artists contributed their own unique view using diverse media, including paintings, embroidery, printmaking and ceramics.

Artwork will be on display from October 13 to November 30 at MTC's Joseph P. Bort Metro Center, 101 8th Street, 3rd Floor, in Oakland across from the Lake Merritt BART station. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays.

A reception will be held on Thursday, October 15 from 4:30-7 p.m. The reception includes a raffle and refreshments and select works will be up for bidding in a silent auction.

MTC is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. The Artful Steps program is located at the Stepping Stones Growth Center, 311 MacArthur Blvd., San Leandro. Their motto is: "Teaching participants of every level of ability methods for self-expression through the visual arts."
