News from President-elect Barack Obama

Barack Obama, the next President of the United StatesThe disability community across the USA and around the globe watched and listened with pride on the evening of November 4 as Barack Obama included people with disabilities among the Americans who came together to deliver a message to the world that night. A video of the President-elect’s acceptance speech and details about his disability agenda are available at the new website of the transition: http://change.gov.

There are two initiatives underway that Americans with disabilities are invited to join. The first is a talent bank of resumes being collected through March 2009 by the American Association of People with Disabilities. If you have a disability and are interested in working for the new administration, email your resume to resumes@aapd.com. AAPD wants to ensure that the disability community is represented at all levels of the Obama-Biden administration.

Barack Obama, the next President of the United StatesThe second initiative is an email campaign to thank the President-elect for including people with disabilities within his platform and as a reminder they are counting on him to implement his disability agenda, including signing the UN disability rights convention. Emails should be sent to the President-elect’s national disability vote director, Kareem Dale: kdale@barackobama.com with a cc to Anne Hayes of the Obama disability policy committee: ahayesku@hotmail.com. A fuller description of the email campaign is posted at: http://wecando.wordpress.com.
