Disability rights groups have filed a law suit against Sacramento County in response to proposed mental health budget cuts.
The law suit filed in Sacramento County on June 9, on behalf of the patients who currently receive services through the centers, alleges that Sacramento County would be in violation of federal and state laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act and the Medicaid Act if the proposed cuts are approved.
As I highlighted in a previous article, in response to the budget cuts Sacramento County is proposing opening four new mental health wellness centers which will be operated by county workers. The wellness centers will provide clinical services, psychiatric medical services, as well as peer and other support services. The wellness centers would be located at the following addresses across Sacramento County: 7171 Bowling Dr.; 3815 Marconi Ave., Suite 1; 3950 Research Dr.; and 2130/2140 Stockton Blvd.
Sacramento County will begin hearings on the proposed budget cuts beginning June 14, 2010 through June 18, 2010.
