New study reveals huge disparities across California in notice of involuntary psychiatric detention for up to 30 days
Generally an involuntary psychiatric hospital stay lasts 3 to 14 days. A person may continue to be maintained in a locked setting for up to 30 days, if a temporary conservatorship is requested under the Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act.
